With a year full of unexpected and unprecedented twists and turns, our goals, resolutions, and ambitions can fade into the background. July 1st signifies the beginning of the second half of the year and it provides the perfect opportunity to review the goals set at the beginning of the year and adapt them for life as we now know it. This can be hard and it can seem unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but everything in life started as a goal or an ambition. Start small...get up just a little earlier, eat just a little healthier, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Make the little changes that can create a big impact in the long term.. Here are four simple ways that you can reset your goals for this upcoming second half of the year
1. Re-Evaluate and Reprioritize
Timing is everything. Is this the right time to be trying to complete this goal? Is this better for next year than right now? This is a great opportunity to make sure you are prioritizing the right goals and that you have enough time to properly address them. If the timing isn’t quite right, shift gears and revise your goals to better align with your current context.
2. Use the Deadline as Motivation
Sometimes when we first set goals, we are too ambitious. We see a new year as a new beginning and want to accomplish so much. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but now is the time to check in to see when your goals and projects were scheduled to be completed. Those with the deadline approaching can propel your motivation to complete them first. Then progress as needed.
3. Use the Power of Habit
Getting started is sometimes the easiest part, you are full of motivation to do something new and exciting, and the hard part comes when you lose that motivation. It may begin to feel like a chore to get up and tackle that task. Especially now, it is important to try to develop a routine and use the power of habit to your advantage.
4. Spend your Time and Energy Wisely
It is hard to grasp that sometimes we simply do not have enough time to do everything we want to do. Especially with a busy work schedule or a busy home life, time can seem to slip away in the blink of an eye. That is why it's even more important we all carve out and protect the time we need to review our goals and ask some important questions to help us prioritize. What deserves our attention and what doesn’t? How long are these tasks going to take? How much of our energy do we need to devote to them?
These four goal-setting tips are important to keep in mind year-round, but sometimes we just need that little reminder to get back on track. Read more about these four tips here.
