Every person, and especially every educator, has a deep understanding of how important it is to remain organized. The beginning of the year provides us a unique opportunity to reexamine what works well for us, our office, our classroom, and the people we work with on a day to day basis. Take this time of the year to get organized when it comes to your space, your things, and your schedule. An article called, “Ways for Teachers to Stay Organized” published by Success By Design has some important information about why it’s important to organize, the negative effects of not being organized, and how to stay organized as a teacher. In this month’s blog we will be diving into how to stay organized as an educator. Tackling the new year is undoubtedly overwhelming, but nothing will have you feeling prepared like some intentional organization! Read the article in full here and read on for our summary of the organization tips.

  1. Stick to one system. Many of us do random spurts of cleaning and organizing that lead us to forget where we put our things. Be more intentional and systematic about your organization so you can always be sure to locate what you need throughout the day.

  2. Use different folders for every day of the month. When planning out your upcoming month, you may feel overwhelmed by all of the tasks to come. Dividing up your work for each day of the month, or even of the week, will make you feel prepared and organized no matter how much you have to do.

  3. Color-code student’s files. This will help you and your students to understand the organization, stay involved with it, and stay organized together. Color is one of the best visual aids we can use!

  4. Talk to students about the organization you choose. Getting everyone involved in the organization will help maintain it. Let your students in on your preferences and they will be able to help you out!

  5. Stay on top of things. Don’t let yourself leave cleaning tasks until the end of the week. You’ll thank yourself if you do a small tidy up each afternoon before a mess has the chance to pile up!

  6. Invest in organizational supplies. Purchasing things like tubs, sticky notes, and folders will be an immense help in creating an organization system that is effective and enjoyable for you. Make a trip to target and get your organization going!

  7. Labels, labels, labels! Creating labels that are clear and easy to read will be helpful to anyone who comes into your space. Create labels for tubs, cubbies, folders and anything that can use it!

Time ReDesigned hopes you find these organization tips helpful for your office or classroom. The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to develop an outstanding organization headache that will save you so much time and energy! This year, we want to help you come back to work better than ever. Nothing says improvement like some impeccable organization!
